College Planning Process
We approach college counseling as part of a comprehensive process that begins in freshman year and supports students through graduation. The 大学咨询 Office provides individual meetings and classroom programming to all students, in addition to in-school standardized testing and evening events that present relevant information on the post-secondary planning process.
Our 大学咨询 Office utilizes SCOIR, a leading edge college planning software tool for students and parents. SCOIR is introduced in 9th grade and becomes a valuable resource for expanding and enhancing access to colleges in the exploration, planning and application stages of the process.
Wise course selection is the focus in early years of 上学校. Sophomores and Juniors take the PSAT in the fall. Juniors and Seniors will take the SAT and/or ACT; we also offer the School Day SAT in the spring, where Juniors are able to take the SAT exam on our campus in a familiar setting. Through a partnership with Summit Educational Group, opportunities exist to take test preparation courses on campus as well.
We are a proud partner school with the University of Connecticut and are able to offer UConn Early College Experience dual-enrollment courses for college credit. We also offer Advanced Placement (AP) courses and exams.
During junior year, students begin actively searching for colleges that are a good fit. 主’s School works with students to help them discover their unique design and to discuss the implications that has on the college selection process. 严格的课程, as well as extracurricular activities, are emphasized as part of the big picture. Students and parents will meet with the 大学咨询 Office individually to focus on each student’s interests and post-secondary goals.
Senior year finds the 大学咨询 Office working with students and parents to help them navigate the application process, including compiling application materials, meeting application deadlines and providing supporting materials for both college and scholarship applications.
The 大学咨询 Office is also a part of the TMS Job Shadow Day committee, where we pair our Juniors and Seniors with a local professional mentor to give students “a day in the life” experience in their career field of interest. The benefits of this day of community partnerships focuses on giving students a better idea of what they might like to study in college, and beyond that has resulted in part-time job and internship offers.
